Hiring: Better Kid Care Program Manager | Penn State

The College of Agricultural Sciences is seeking an individual trained in family studies, child/youth development, early childhood education, or related social science or human development field to join our nationally-recognized Penn State Extension Food, Families, and Health Better Kid Care (BKC) program.

The BKC program delivers professional development to early care and education (ECE) and out-of-school time (OST) professionals in all fifty states primarily using online self-directed learning. BKC is seeking a highly motivated professional to serve as program coordinator. The successful candidate will be responsible for the overall operation of the BKC program including providing strategic direction, decision-making, future policy development, and staff supervision. Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Curriculum development oversight and direction

  • Budget oversight, including revenue stream and grant funds

  • Grant portfolio management, including serving as Principal Investigator (PI), seeking funding sources, and meeting all grant requirements

  • Marketing

  • External partnership development and maintenance

  • Program evaluation

  • Project management

  • Staff supervision

The individual will be located in Centre County at 2182 Sandy Drive, Suite 204, State College PA, 16803. The position typically requires a master’s degree or higher plus 8 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. The successful candidate must have the experience and education to be approved by state childcare licensing agencies as an approved training professional. Experience with curriculum development, e-learning, project management, outreach and marketing, grant procurement and management, budget oversight, and extension organizations is preferred. Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, including the ability to translate research findings into understandable and meaningful curricula for practitioners is essential. The ability to work in a fast-paced environment and strong technical skills are required.

This position requires the following clearances: PA State Police Criminal Background Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance Form, and Federal (FBI) Fingerprint Criminal Background Check. The candidate also must possess a valid driver's license and have use of a private vehicle. Since the position requires operating a motor vehicle as part of the job duties, successful completion of a motor vehicle records check will be required in addition to the three clearances.
