We’re proud to share our 2024 Impact Report, highlighting the progress, partnerships, and powerful work that defined the year. From strengthening Tribal early childhood systems to shaping national policy, the National Indian Child Care Association (NICCA) remained deeply rooted in its mission: to support, elevate, and advocate for the Tribal programs serving Native children and families across the country.

2024 was a year of meaningful connection, capacity building, and continued momentum—and we’re honored to reflect on it with you.

2024 NICCA Impact Report
Expanding Our Reach and Relationships

NICCA strengthened its national presence in 2024 by cultivating key relationships and lifting up the collective voice of Tribal child care programs.

  • We supported Tribal early childhood programs through technical assistance, engagement in Tribal and national events, and consistent connection with programs across the country.

  • NICCA participated in numerous Tribal early childhood events and national early childhood initiatives and coalitions, helping us build relationships, share Tribal priorities, and ensure Native voices were included in broader systems discussions.

Providing High-Impact Technical Assistance and Training

A central part of NICCA’s mission is to support Tribal early childhood programs through customized technical assistance, peer learning, and professional development.

  • We delivered 45 trainings and workshops throughout the year, offering opportunities for learning, leadership, and collective problem-solving.

  • These sessions reached nearly 1,000 professionals, from new program administrators to seasoned Tribal leaders, equipping them with tools to strengthen their programs and advocate for their communities.

Elevating Policy and Advocacy

Our policy and advocacy efforts ensure that the voices of Tribal child care programs are included—and centered—in decision-making spaces.

  • NICCA responded to numerous federal policy and rulemaking opportunities, submitting comments and recommendations that reflect the unique strengths and challenges of Tribal programs.

  • We provided technical assistance to Tribal child care programs related to federal Tribal consultation, helping them prepare to engage effectively and assert their sovereignty in these critical discussions.

  • NICCA participated in multiple federal and national meetings or consultations, representing the interests of Tribal grantees in early childhood policy development.

Supporting Tribal Innovation and Community Solutions

Recognizing the innovation within Tribal communities, NICCA worked closely with programs to elevate local solutions.

We supported Tribal communities through focused, individualized technical assistance, helping them implement local priorities and strengthen their child care systems.

  • Our efforts helped amplify innovative practices already in use in Tribal programs, building knowledge across the network and supporting sustainability.

Strengthening Our Organization and Future Focus

NICCA made internal investments this year to build a strong foundation for the future.

  • We continued the development of Strategy 2030, a long-term strategic plan that will guide NICCA’s next phase of impact, built in partnership with our members and rooted in Tribal values.

  • NICCA also secured new funding streams and partnerships that will allow us to expand our offerings, increase support to members, and strengthen our sustainability.

Looking Ahead

2024 was a year of intentional growth. With every training delivered, policy comment submitted, and relationship nurtured, NICCA reinforced its commitment to the powerful work being done by Tribal child care programs across the country.

As we move forward, we remain deeply grounded in our mission: to serve, support, and advocate for Tribal early care and education systems that reflect the strength, culture, and sovereignty of Native communities.

Together, we are building a future where every Native child has access to thriving, culturally rooted care—because they deserve nothing less.
