Head Start Parents and Program Leaders Stand up to Trump Administration

Call on President and Congress Not to Dismantle Head Start

Background

Over the past few weeks, the Trump Administration has been trying to destroy Head Start from the inside— first by freezing funding, then laying off 40 percent of HHS staff dedicated to supporting grantees, and most recently delaying grants— which caused the disruption of services at one Head Start program in Sunnyside, WA.

Now, several news outlets are reporting that the Trump Administration plans to eliminate Head Start completely. So, on Thursday April 24th from 10:30am to 11am the Washington State Association of Head Start and ECEAP (WSA)  is holding a virtual news event to sound the alarm so the public can learn about the incredible impact of the Head Start program supporting children and families as well as the potential damage that could take place if Head Start is dismantled.

What? The Trump Administration is proposing to eliminate Head Start. To help the public understand what is at stake, the Washington State Association of Head Start and ECEAP (WSA) is hosting a virtual media event with two Head Start parents and two program leaders from across Washington.

When? Thursday April 24th from 10:30am to 11am Pacific Time

Who? We have a great line up of speakers including:

  • Jessica Lara, Assistant Director at ESD 105 in Yakima

  • Alexus Rowe, an Early Head Start Head Start parent

  • Angel Lewis, Educational Director at Denise Louie in Seattle, and

  • Trena McHaley, a Head Start parent with a child in the Central Valley Early Learning Center in Spokane.
