From Control to Collaboration: Re-thinking Classroom Management by Samuel Broaden

Oftentimes in early childhood programs, we focus on classroom management and encourage teachers and adults to learn how to manage their classrooms effectively. However, with the idea of “classroom management” comes an underlying idea of control. Join early childhood advocate and author, Samuel Broaden from Honoring Childhood, to learn to shift your thinking about the need to control children’s behavior to focus on creating a culture of collaboration. In this webinar, Samuel will help you consider how to create a program culture in which children and teachers collaborate on the classroom environment, activities, provocations, and more.

In this thought-provoking session, you will:

  • Practice using self-reflection to better understand the reasoning behind why we tend to control children.

  • Learn new ways in which you (and your teachers) can shift your program away from control and towards collaboration.

  • Create actionable steps that you can take to begin to change the culture of your program.
